Founded in 2025 by attorney Kollan R. Kolthoff, our firm was built with a clear mission: to bring compassionate, affordable, and local legal representation to the people of rural Iowa.
After years of serving as a county prosecutor, Kollan saw firsthand how many hardworking Iowans face barriers to legal help — whether because of cost, distance, or the lack of nearby attorneys. Iowa River Legal was created to help change that. We believe legal guidance should be accessible, understandable, and grounded in real life — not intimidating or out of reach.
From our home base in Iowa Falls, we proudly serve communities along the Iowa River and throughout Hardin, Franklin, Hamilton, Grundy, and surrounding counties. Our practice focuses on the real issues families, farmers, and small-town residents face every day — including family law, custody, divorce, estate planning, probate, real estate, small business, and general civil matters.
As our firm continues to grow, family matters have become an important part of what we do. About Our Attorney
Kollan R. Kolthoff, Founder of Iowa River Legal
Kollan R. Kolthoff is an Iowa Falls native and the founder of Iowa River Legal, PLLC, a rural-focused law firm built on the belief that quality legal help should be accessible, understandable, and close to home.
Kollan earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in 2017, where he studied Applied Sciences with a focus on Political Science, before graduating from Drake University Law School with his Juris Doctorate in 2020.
Before opening Iowa River Legal, Kollan served as an Assistant County Attorney, where he gained extensive experience in courtroom advocacy, negotiation, criminal law, juvenile matters, and community-based justice. That work gave him a clear view of how the legal system affects real people and families — often during some of the most stressful moments of their lives.
In 2025, Kollan founded Iowa River Legal to bring practical, compassionate, and affordable representation to rural Iowans. Since opening, the firm has grown into a community-centered practice serving clients in family law, custody, divorce, criminal and traffic matters, estate planning, probate, real estate, small business, and general civil issues.
Kollan’s approach is straightforward: listen first, explain clearly, and help clients move forward with a plan. Whether he is helping a parent protect time with their child, guiding a family through an estate, assisting someone facing a criminal charge, or helping a small business owner solve a problem, Kollan focuses on providing steady, practical guidance without making the law feel intimidating.

Kory brings a strong background in operations, client service, and day-to-day management to Iowa River Legal. With years of experience in retail leadership, he has developed a practical skill set centered on organization, communication, and helping people feel supported from the moment they walk through the door.
Originally from Rockwell City, Iowa, Kory understands the importance of approachable, community-focused service. His experience working directly with the public makes him a valuable part of our client-first approach, helping ensure that each person who contacts our office is treated with professionalism, respect, and care.
At Iowa River Legal, Kory assists with daily operations, scheduling, billing, invoicing, and maintaining a welcoming office environment. He plays an important role in helping our office run smoothly and in creating a space that feels calm, accessible, and supportive for clients navigating difficult or stressful situations.
