Kollan R. Kolthoff founded Iowa River Legal, PLLC to bring practical, accessible legal representation to individuals and families across rural Iowa. Based in Iowa Falls, he combines courtroom experience with straightforward advice, personal attention, and respect for the people behind each case.
His practice focuses on family law, criminal defense, simple wills and estate planning, real estate deeds and contracts, juvenile matters, and mental health proceedings. He helps clients navigate divorce and custody disputes, defend against criminal charges, and address difficult questions involving children, treatment, and family stability. He also serves in court-appointed roles, including as a guardian ad litem, where his work centers on children’s interests and well-being.
Before opening Iowa River Legal, Kollan served as an Assistant County Attorney in multiple Iowa counties for over 5 years, gaining experience in litigation, negotiation, and courtroom advocacy. Today, he draws on that background to evaluate cases carefully, explain options clearly, and advocate for his clients both in negotiations and before the court.
Kollan earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in 2017, studying Applied Sciences while specializing in Political Science & International Affairs, and his Juris Doctor from Drake University Law School in 2020, graduating with specialized certificates in prosecution and defense as well as community service.
